Ingredients
Ice Cream Base:
- 3 ½ cups cream base (heavy cream + whole milk)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp salt
Red, White & Blue Cake Pieces:
- 1 box white cake mix (or homemade vanilla cake)
- 3 eggs
- ½ cup butter (melted) or vegetable oil
- 1 cup milk
- Red & blue food coloring
Instructions
Prepare the Cake Pieces:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions (or use a homemade vanilla cake recipe).
- Divide the batter into three bowls:
- Leave one plain (white)
- Add red food coloring to one bowl
- Add blue food coloring to another bowl
- Pour each batter into separate greased baking pans and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely, then cut into small cubes and set aside.
Make the Ice Cream Base:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cream base, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until fully combined.
- Pour into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Assemble & Freeze:
- Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, gently fold in the red, white, and blue cake pieces by hand.
- Transfer to a container, layering in more cake pieces for extra color.
- Cover and freeze for 6–8 hours or overnight until firm.
