Ingredients

Ice Cream Base:

  1. 3 ½ cups cream base (heavy cream + whole milk)
  2. ¾ cup sugar
  3. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  4. ¼ tsp salt

Red, White & Blue Cake Pieces:

  1. 1 box white cake mix (or homemade vanilla cake)
  2. 3 eggs
  3. ½ cup butter (melted) or vegetable oil
  4. 1 cup milk
  5. Red & blue food coloring

Instructions

Prepare the Cake Pieces:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions (or use a homemade vanilla cake recipe).
  3. Divide the batter into three bowls:
    • Leave one plain (white)
    • Add red food coloring to one bowl
    • Add blue food coloring to another bowl
  4. Pour each batter into separate greased baking pans and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Let the cakes cool completely, then cut into small cubes and set aside.

Make the Ice Cream Base:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cream base, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until fully combined.
  2. Pour into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Assemble & Freeze:

  1. Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, gently fold in the red, white, and blue cake pieces by hand.
  2. Transfer to a container, layering in more cake pieces for extra color.
  3. Cover and freeze for 6–8 hours or overnight until firm.
