Ingredients

Ice Cream Base:

  1. 3 ½ cups cream base (heavy cream + whole milk)
  2. ¾ cup sugar
  3. 1 tsp pure peppermint extract
  4. ¼ tsp salt
  5. A few drops of red or pink food coloring (optional, for a festive touch)

Optional Mix-Ins:

  1. ½ cup crushed candy canes
  2. ½ cup mini chocolate chips or white chocolate shavings

Instructions

Prepare the Ice Cream Base:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cream base, sugar, peppermint extract, and salt until the sugar fully dissolves.
  2. If desired, add a few drops of red or pink food coloring to give the ice cream a light peppermint hue.
  3. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight for a richer flavor and smoother texture.

Churn the Ice Cream:

  1. Pour the chilled ice cream base into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, gently fold in the crushed candy canes or chocolate chips by hand.

Freeze & Enjoy:

  1. Transfer the churned ice cream to a container, layering in extra candy cane pieces or chocolate for added texture.
  2. Cover and freeze for 6–8 hours or overnight until firm.
  3. Scoop and serve in a cone, bowl, or topped with extra crushed candy canes for a festive touch!

Serving Suggestions:

  1. Pair with hot fudge or chocolate sauce for a mint-chocolate combo.
  2. Serve with Christmas cookies for a festive dessert.
