Ingredients
Ice Cream Base:
- 3 ½ cups cream base (heavy cream + whole milk)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp salt
Chocolate Chips:
- 4 oz dark or semi-sweet chocolate (high-quality, chopped)
- 1 Tbsp coconut oil or butter (optional, for smoother texture)
Instructions
Prepare the Ice Cream Base:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cream base, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is dissolved.
- Transfer the mixture to the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best texture.
Melt & Drizzle the Chocolate:
- In a heatproof bowl, melt the chopped chocolate and coconut oil (if using) over a double boiler or in short bursts in the microwave. Stir until smooth.
- Let the melted chocolate cool slightly but remain pourable.
Churn & Add the Chocolate Chips:
- Pour the chilled ice cream base into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, drizzle in the melted chocolate while the machine is still running.
- The chocolate will harden upon contact, creating chocolate flakes (stracciatella-style) throughout the ice cream.
Freeze & Enjoy:
- Transfer the churned ice cream to a container and freeze for 6–8 hours or overnight until firm.
- Scoop and serve in a cone, bowl, or topped with extra chocolate chips for an extra indulgent treat!
